Crime Report: A burglary and a near-burglary this week

The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill from Oct. 19 to Oct. 25

Oct. 19 Burglary on unit block of W. Abington Ave. A woman returned to her home in the afternoon and found her kitchen window broken and her front door opened. Taken was a laptop, an Amazon Echo and jewelry. Total value of everything taken estimated to be worth about $700.

Oct. 19  Attempted burglary on 8300 block of Ardleigh Street. A resident reported that he was in his second-floor room just before noon when someone broke open his window and looked into his room. The resident asked, “Who are you?” and the unknown man fled.

Oct. 22 Theft from vehicle at Valley Green. A woman told police she parked her car at Valley Green and when she returned, the passenger-side window was smashed in and her purse containing wallet, sunglasses and various cards, ID and medicine was taken. Value of stolen items was estimated to be worth $600.

Oct. 23 Theft on the 8200 block of Germantown Avenue. Restaurant staff reported that at some point overnight, between Oct. 22 and 23, someone took approximately $3,800 worth of metal railings and other decorative fixtures.

Oct. 23 Attempted theft from vehicle on the 7700 block of Germantown Avenue. A woman told police she went out to her car at around 7:30 a.m. and found four men had jacked her vehicle up. She confronted the men who lowered her vehicle and left in a black BMW.

Oct. 23 Theft on 8200 Seminole Street. A homeowner reported three Biden/Harris signs taken from his property.

Oct. 25 Theft from vehicle at Valley Green. A woman told police she parked at Valley Green and returned to find her passenger-side window smashed in. Taken were credit cards, ID and keys. The thief also used one of the cards to make approximately $1,250 in purchases at a Target.
