My mother, Kathryn Fiske Plummer, purchased it in 1948.  My younger sister and I lived there with her until 1955 when we both married and moved out of Philadelphia. By 1960, our mother was remarried, had sold the house and moved to Australia.

Over the years since I lived there, I have had homes overseas and in more states than anyone would want to count. However, I did live on Roanoke Street across from Pastorius Park from 1978-82, but never again in Evergreen Place that holds so many happy memories for me.  Whenever possible since the 1950s, I have brought my children and grandchildren to visit the courtyard and have taken their photos standing on the bench at the head of the street.

Evergreen Place is a somewhat hidden treasure in Chestnut Hill, with a history that goes back for many decades – I am blessed to have lived there.

Thank you for featuring it in George McNeely’s wonderfully informative article “How shared walls shaped a community” in the magazine.
