Crime Report: One arson, three thefts from vehicles and one theft

The following crime report is for crimes reported in Chestnut Hill from Nov. 4 to Nov. 10, 2019. Please note that the dates in bold listed below are when the crimes occurred, not when they were reported.

Nov. 5. Theft from vehicle on the unit block of East Hampton Road. Complainant states that between 12 a.m. and 7:50 a.m. on Nov. 5, someone gained entry to his unlocked vehicle. The following items were taken from the backseat of the vehicle: numerous DVDs (valued at $200) and six pairs of headphones (valued at $300).

Nov. 5. Theft from vehicle on the unit block of Valley View Road. Police responded to the unit block of Valley View Road for a tip in reference two males. A man told police he observed one man in his neighbor’s driveway trying the car door handle of a black Mercedes, and then the same man walked into his driveway from across the street. The man told police he came outside and both males fled. One of the men was stopped at 8800 Crefeld Street and positively identified by witness.

Nov. 5. Theft from vehicle on the unit block of Bells Mill Road at approximately midnight. Complainant stated that his wife stepped out to get the newspaper in front of the driveway and noticed a black backpack missing from her vehicle and items discarded on the lawn. Stolen was the backpack and $5 in change.

Nov. 5. Theft on the 8800 block of Crefeld Street at approximately 10:15 a.m. A teacher at Crefeld school stated that he left his wallet on his desk inside the classroom between 10:15 a.m. and 10:45 a.m. When he returned to the classroom, he notice his wallet was missing. Taken was one brown wallet containing a license, debit card, medical marijuana card, medical cards and a Paypal card. Value of items taken $10.

Nov. 9. Arson on the unit block of West Bells Mill Road. Police and fireboard were dispatched to the unit block of Bells Mill Road for a vehicle fire. Upon police arrival, the vehicle was fully engulfed in flames; the vehicle was unoccupied. After the fire was extinguished, there was no license plate and the vin number came back to the complainant. Fire Marshal 13 declared the fire an arson.
