Several nonprofit groups aid handicapped man

Habitat for Humanity of Montgomery County recently sent out a crew to install a new roof on the house of Flourtown resident David Murray. Diagnosed with distal myopathy and paralyzed from the neck down, Murray is currently unable to leave his house without assistance, which has left him almost completely homebound. His house, which was built in 1987 specifically to accommodate his condition, has had the same roof since its construction and had been leaking before being replaced. Things are looking up for Murray beyond Habitat’s new roof, however, as a GoFundMe account established to allow him to continue living in the house and be able to pay for the necessary upkeep has raised over $20,000 in three months. Another fundraiser is also coming up on Wednesday, Nov. 14, as the Sivel Group and Kiwanis Club of Conshohocken will partner with Iron Hill Brewery to donate 20 percent of food bills from that day to Murray. Anyone wishing to contribute to the fundraiser will need to present a coupon that can be picked up at a Berkshire Hathaway office on 8400 or 8512 Germantown Ave., or printed out from facebook.com/TheSivelGroup. For more information, contact Jennifer Vare at jen.vare@foxroach.com or by calling 267-285-0393. You can also donate directly at gofundme.com/davidmurrayhome. Check out our previous coverage on Murray here.
