The Chestnut Hill Pharmacy closed suddenly last week.

Chestnut Hill Pharmacy, which served as a smallbusiness alternative to nearby corporate locations, closed its doors suddenly last week.

Mark Lawson, R.Ph., opened the pharmacy at 8030 Germantown Avenue in 2010. It changed ownership five years later, when it was bought by pharmacist and former store manager Megan Gill and her husband, pharmacist Raj Patel.

“I really want to see this place become ‘your pharmacy,’” Gill told the Local in 2015. “I want it to be the neighborhood pharmacy. I want it to be what people want it to be. It’s common for us to hear: ‘You know I can’t believe you remembered my name,’ or ‘Please tell me you have this prescription. I keep getting the runaround.’ It surprises me that people are surprised to be treated when in reality it’s common courtesy, professionalism—things people should expect.”

After closing, Chestnut Hill Pharmacy’s customer base was transferred to the Rite Aid at 7700 Crittenden Street, in the Market Square shopping center.

“It’s pretty significant,” said Michael Blount, a shift manager at the Rite Aid told the Local. “We have gotten more prescriptions and have had to hire extra pharmacists to cope.”
