William M. Kleinfelder, coach and construction manager

William McCarter “Bill” Kleinfelder, 67, a former chair of the physical education department at Chestnut Hill Academy, died at his home in Maryland on Sept. 13 after a brief battle with cancer.

A native Philadelphian who grew up in Chestnut Hill and Miquon, Mr. Kleinfelder graduated in 1968 from Chestnut Hill Academy where he was a three-season varsity athlete. He attended Ithaca College, where he continued his athletic career and where he was a member of Phi Epsilon Kappa fraternity.

After graduating from Ithaca he returned to CHA in January 1973 as a teacher, coach and chairman of the physical education department. He is a member of the CHA Athletic Hall of Fame.

Mr. Kleinfelder left CHA in 1977, after which he had a long career in construction management throughout the Mid-Atlantic region. He was a member of the Association of Builders and Contractors in Baltimore.

He is survived by daughters Elizabeth A. Kleinfelder and Lindsey A. Kleinfelder; brothers David M. Kleinfelder and John M. Kleinfelder; and three grandsons.

Funeral services and interment will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 30, at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Chestnut Hill with a reception to follow.
