Hidden beyond the carefully placed dumbbells, assorted workout machines and welcoming fitness trainers of Balance Chestnut Hill are beeping monitors and breathing masks ready to be used by earnest clients of BioFit Philly. Besides those machines preside two enthusiastic fitness coaches capable of helping make your ideal workout dreams become a reality.

Balance founders Katey Dyck and her husband, Scott, started their biometric testing business two months ago because they believe that they “understand all of the struggles that can accompany a journey towards peak fitness. People quit on their fitness goals when they don’t see results despite ‘doing everything right.’” Katey said.

Scott and Katey’s relationship with fitness runs deep in their lives. Scott has been the head fitness trainer at Balance Chestnut Hill since 2010, and co–authored “Group Fitness,” a textbook for the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA). He became a certified personal trainer during his deployment in Iraq, beginning in 2005.

Katey appeared on the cover of People Magazine in July of 2014, as well as in many other local news outlets after successfully losing 100 pounds and documenting her journey on her blog, “Happy Exhaustion.” Since then Katey has become a certified specialist in fitness nutrition and a lifestyle coach.

BioFit Philly, which is located inside the walls of Balance Chestnut Hill, is the only small business in the area to offer body composition scans, Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) and VO2 Max tests using, according to Katey, “technology previously unavailable outside of medical and university settings.” These specific tests identify the body’s “makeup” and help understand how current fitness routines are insufficient when you try to lose, maintain or increase your weight. Once the tests are completed, Scott and Katey sit with their clients to break down the results and how to move forward with a workout routine.

“We provide clients with testing services that allow them to maximize the results of their own personal fitness goals,” Katey explained. “If you're doing the same diet as your neighbor and she's dropping lots of weight while you're not, our tests will tell you why,”  What is even more convenient is that you do not have to travel far to start your fitness routine.

“Balance has recently expanded into a fantastically unique one-stop-shop for personal wellness. BioFit Philly attracts clients who then decide to train [at Balance] and Balance trainers inform their clients that our services are available to them.”

Since the duo began, they have received more than 50 clients and are enthusiastic to help other clients who have been struggling with achieving their fitness goals.

“Nobody's ideal self looks quite the same,” Katey said. “But if we can help people to land in a position of confidence, then we have succeeded,”
