Wallace G. McCune, physician

Wallace Gilfillan McCune, of Fort Washington, 98, an internist who had practiced in Northwest Philadelphia for 53 years, died April 28 at The Hill at Whitemarsh, where he had been a patient for the past two months.

Dr. McCune had served on the staff of Germantown Hospital, where he had been chairman of medicine, and also at Chestnut Hill Hospital. He was a clinical professor of medicine at Temple University School of Medicine.

Born in Canonsburg, Pa., he was a graduate of Washington & Jefferson College and the University of Chicago School of Medicine.

Dr. McCune was a member of the Philadelphia County Medical Society, where he had served a term as president.  He also was a member of the Pennsylvania Medical Society, the College of Physicians and the Pastorius Club.

He is survived by a daughter, Elizabeth L. McCune, of Philadelphia; a son, William McCune IV, of Oreland; and three grandchildren.

A funeral service was held May 6 at the Helweg & Rowland Funeral Home in Abington. Memorial donations may be sent to the Abington Health Foundation, 1200 Old York Road, Abington, PA 19009. – WF
