Graeme Frazier III, insurance executive and volunteer

Graeme “Terry” Frazier III, a retired insurance executive, died March 18 at Normandy Farms Estates in Blue Bell’

Mr. Frazier had been president of The Hirshorn Company of Chestnut Hill until his retirement in 1997. Earlier he had worked at Alexander and Alexander, Lukens Savage and Washburn and Peake and Company, insurance brokers.

Born in Philadelphia, he was a graduate of  The William Penn Charter School and Trinity College in Hartford, Conn., where he was a member of St. Anthony Hall. After joining the ROTC in college, he became a second lieutenant in the Air Force, where he spent more than five years and was honorably discharged.

As an Air Force captain, he piloted a variety of jet aircraft and was a member of the Mach Busters Club. He flew missions during the Cuban Missile Crisis as an aircraft commander of a radar-equipped Super Constellation and later enjoyed flying his Piper Arrow.

Always on the cutting edge of technology, in 1976 he bought one of the first personal computers and taught himself how to code and program and was always willing to help friends and family with their computer problems. He disassembled and reassembled a variety of vehicles, computers, and appliances, and, in his later years, bought two motorcycles to refurbish and enjoy.

Mr. Frazier served on many nonprofit organizations. He was president of the Philadelphia Cricket Club and the Wissahickon Skating Club. He was president of the board of trustees of the Presbytery of Philadelphia and later became chairman of the board of Philadelphia Presbytery Homes.

He was a member of the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, where he served as president of the board of trustees and as an elder. He was the most recent past president of the Residents Association of Normandy Farms Estates.

He enjoyed playing golf and tennis, as well as boating, and liked to gather his family together at

Lake Paupac Club in the Poconos, where he had served on the club board.

Mr. Frazier is survived by his wife of 57 years, Barbara Peake Frazier; a daughter, Sandra Connelly; a son, B. Graeme Frazier IV; and five grandchildren. Sisters Audrey F. Whitby and Elaine B. Corey preceded him in death.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 8, at the Presbyterian Church of Chestnut Hill, 8855 Germantown Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19118. Interment will be private. Memorial donations may be made to the above church. – W.F.
