William Edward Hall, of Blue Bell, PA, formerly of Chestnut Hill, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2016, after his battle of almost 10 years with mantle cell lymphoma. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death. Billy was born January 30, 1952, in Plainfield, NJ. He was the son of the late Calvert and Barbara Barrows Hall, longtime residents of Chestnut Hill. He graduated from Chestnut Hill Academy, class of 1970 and attended Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, GA . He worked for numerous area businesses. His friends and family gave Billy the nickname " Rug ", because of his thick, dark, curly hair. Billy loved playing softball and croquet. He also loved his eight siblings and was the family historian. Beginning in 2009, he championed a musical reunion with Chestnut Hill Academy alumni and friends and family, which became to known as " Rugapalooza ", the most recent one in 2015. He vacationed in Long Beach Island, New Jersey and Grand Lake Stream, Maine, which became highlights in his life. Billy was loved by all who knew him. His quick wit and sense of humor truly made him one - of - a - kind. Billy is survived by 2 brothers and 6 sisters, 15 nieces and nephews, 8 grand nieces and nephews. His Memorial Service will be at the Heritage Chapel, George Washington Memorial Park, 80 Stenton Avenue, Plymouth Meeting, PA 19462, on September 11, 2016 at 3 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Springside Chestnut Hill Academy, in remembrance of William E. Hall " 70 ", Willow Grove Campus , 500 W. Willow Grove Avenue, Phila., PA 19118 or Abington - Jefferson Hospice, Warminster in remembrance of William E. Hall, Abington - Jefferson Hospice, 225 Newtown Rd., Warminster, PA 18974.
