A storm that ripped through Chestnut Hill just before noon today knocked out power in large sections of Chestnut Hill. Residents reported power outages from E. Abington all the way to Mermaid Lane in East Chestnut Hill.
While most Germantown Avenue businesses in the "Upper Hill" had power, Starbucks Coffee on the 8500 block and Weavers Way Co-op on the 8400 block were without power as of 2 p.m.
Another Hill resident reported he had lost power in the 200 block of West Evergreen Avenue. Downed Amtrak lines also forced the closure of SEPTA's Chestnut Hill West line.
The power outage extended to the border with Springfield Township, where un-powered traffic lights likely caused a three-car crash at the intersection of Willow Grove and Stenton avenues.
