Scholastic squash competition has been over for some time, but some young racquet standouts from the area excelled at a national juniors tournament in Delaware on the second weekend of April. The 28th edition of the U.S. Junior Doubles Championships was staged at the Wilmington Country Club and Vicmead Hunt Club.
As eighth-graders in 2015, Penn Charter’s Elisabeth Ross and Germantown Friends’ Daisy Lentz won the Under-15 U.S. title. As freshmen this year, the talented tandem chose to move all the way up to compete in – and win – the Under-19 division.
Jack Lentz, Daisy’s older brother and also a GFS student, played mixed doubles at the tournament with fellow junior Julia Buchholz, of Germantown Academy. They reached the finals in the U19 division.
Ross also won a title at mixed doubles, joining forces with Penn Charter schoolmate Thomas Fournaris to win the U15’s. Fournaris, an eighth-grader who played for the Quakers’ varsity team this winter, is a Chestnut Hill resident.
