“See What Develops” is a community project, conceived by Glenside resident Nicki Toizer to bring the joy of photography to older adults in northwest Philadelphia.

During August a total of 12 members drawn from Center in the Park in Germantown and Chestnut Hill’s Center for Enrichment, attended three weekday photography classes and three Saturday practice sessions at different locations in northwest Philadelphia. The students have picked several of their favorite images to share with friends, family and the public.

“I could see the improvement in their photography each week as my students learned new things,” Tozier said. “First - focusing, taking the picture and deleting. While still inside we moved on to the use of zoom and macro. Finally we went outdoors and took advantage of the area’s architectural features, trees, flowers and natural light. It's been a beautiful experience. What I loved about these sessions was watching each photographer at work. Some people worked together, some separately, but always with a goal in mind.”

The community is invited to exhibits at each Center on Sunday, Sept. 13. Center in the Park (5818 Germantown Ave.), will host its open house between noon to 2 p.m. From 3 to 5 p.m. you can enjoy light refreshments and the best work of Toizer’s students from the Chestnut Hill Center for Enrichment (8431 Germantown Ave.). There is time to visit both locations to see what all 12 senior photographers have accomplished.

While there has been no charge to the students, there are costs associated with “See What Develops” for enlarged prints and matting. You can donate to the project at: www.GoFundMe.com/SeeWhatDevelops.
