Benjamin Gould Donahue, formerly of Wyndmoor, a retired marketing and sales executive, died June 14 of pneumonia at Chestnut Hill Hospital. He had been living at Springfield Residence.
Mr. Donahue has spent most of his professional life in marketing, sales, advertising and market research at Burlington Industries and H.K. Porter and, more recently, at Shihadeh Carpets in Ardmore.
He was active for many years as an actor, director, producer and stage manager at Stagecrafters in Chestnut Hill. He was also a member of the board of directors at Oak Lane Country Day School and the Florence Crittenden House in Germantown and was a volunteer at Chestnut Hill Hospital.
Born in Philadelphia, he graduated from Springfield High School, where he was president of the student body and captain of championship football and track teams. He received a bachelor's degree in economics from Yale University.
He then spent three years in San Francisco, where he taught English, mathematics and civics at Menlo Park High School and coached football and track. He also spent a year in Europe, teaching English at a school in Switzerland and living for a time in England.
An avid golfer, he was a member of the Philadelphia Cricket Club.
Mr. Donahue was married to the former Ann Dill, with whom he had a son and a daughter, but the marriage ended in divorce. He is survived by his son, Theodore D. Donahue; his daughter, Elizabeth Gould Donahue; a granddaughter, and his former wife. -- WF
