James F. Sutor, age 90 of Gladwynne, formerly of Lafayette Hill died Sunday (6/1) at his residence at Waverly Heights in Gladwynne. He was a Retired Vice President and Secretary for the Board of Provident Mutual Life Insurance Co. Phila. Pa. Mr. Sutor was born in Phila., PA, the son of the late Dr. Frederick W. and the late Edna Wotherspoon Sutor II. Mr. Sutor was a 1942 graduate of Germantown Academy and Haverford College Class of 1947. He was a World War 2 Veteran serving in the Navy with the rank of Lt. Commander and served on the USS Monterey in the South Pacific. Mr. Sutor was a Lt. Commander for the US Naval Reserves also. He was a long time member of Saint Thomas Church Whitemarsh, The Union League of Phila, The Skytop Club and Sunnybrook Golf Club. He was a board member of the Phila. Crime Commission, The Retired and Senior Volunteer Program of Montgomery County, Visiting Nurse Society of Greater Phila. along with the Phila. Studio-Recording of the Blind and Dyslexic. Mr.Sutor was also the former Secretary for the Board at Chestnut Hill Academy and was a past President of The Germantown Academy Alumni Assn. and was a member of the Military Order of Foreign Wars of the United States. He is survived by his wife Flora (Van Sciver) Sutor, two sons, George W."Gary" Helme of Los Angeles, CA, Peter V. Sutor (Barbara) of Erdenheim, PA, 3 grandchildren. Funeral Services will be held Saturday June 7, 2014 at 1:00 pm in the Saint Thomas Church Whitemarsh, 610 Church Rd., Ft. Washington, Pa. 19034. Burial will follow in the Saint Thomas Church Cemetery. Contributions may be made to Haverford College. Funeral arrangements are by the Lownes Family Funeral Home of Lafayette Hill.
