Susan Elizabeth Ellis (Susie), most recently a resident of Flourtown, PA, died peacefully March 1, 2014. Born July 9, 1943, in Germantown, PA, Susie was the daughter of the late Addison S. and Marion M. Ellis of Chestnut Hill, PA, sister of Sally E. Quale (Andrew), Bronxville, NY, and Marion E. Garrett (Harold), Geyserville, CA, and aunt to three nephews and one niece. In addition to her work at Chestnut Hill Hospital, Susie’s life was devoted to her animals. An early rider of her own horse, she eventually competed in the Nationals at Madison Square Garden. In the 1960’s, Susie trained her first dog, a Golden Retriever, with John Kellogg at the Chestnut Hill Water Tower, then continued her interest in Obedience competition with the Suburban Dog Training Club, remaining an enthusiastic, active, and supportive member from the 1970’s up until her death. In 1975, she and a good friend became breeders of “Datelis” Golden Retrievers. In the last two decades, she developed an interest in Pembroke Welsh Corgis which she trained not only for Obedience but also Agility and Flyball competition, joining the Y2K9S Club and winning further ribbons and trophies.
