The Chestnut Hill Center for Enrichment is pleased to announce that Dr. T. Ramsey Thorp, M.D. will be the featured author when the Center’s evening Literary Salon returns to the Chestnut Hill Hotel Bombay Room on the second Thursday of the month. Mark your calendars and RSVP now to join us on Feb. 13 at 7 p.m.

Thorp is the founding ophthalmologist of Thorp Bailey Weber Eye Associates. He earned the Bachelor of Arts from Wesleyan University, and his M.D. from the University of Pennsylvania. Upon entering the medical profession in 1970 Thorp decided to always “connect mentally with the patient far beyond the scope of the examination.” In addition to his medical practice, Thorp serves as a clinical associate professor of ophthalmology at the University of Pennsylvania Medical School.

In 2005 Thorp published “The Laying On of Hands,” an in-depth examination of the intricate relationship in medicine that entwines patients, physicians, hospitals, insurance and pharmaceutical companies. This book affirms the value of these relationships, discusses their characteristics, and shows how they are both established and threatened.

One only has to read the first few pages to appreciate that Ramsey Thorp is passionate about being a physician, following in both his grandfather’s and father’s footsteps. “The Laying On of Hands: is a fascinating read and as timely in February 2014 as the day it was written.

The Chestnut Hill Hotel/Bombay Room is located at 8229 Germantown Ave. Those who dine at the Chestnut Grill (also in the Hotel) before or after the Feb. 13 Literary Salon will receive a 10 percent discount on the food portion of their bill. RSVP to the CHCE office (215-248-0180 or the.chce@verizon.net). Your requested donation of $5-$10 (payable at the door) will support all Center for Enrichment programs for older adults.
