Chestnut Hill’s huge playground and garden on Germantown Avenue needs a Spring Cleanup.
Volunteers are invited to come to the playground, located on the grounds of the J.S. Jenks Elementary School, on Saturday, April 6from 8:30am to 10:30am. Volunteers will help clean the grounds, remove weeds, trim bushes, and rake up leaves.
Please come to the playground at Germantown and Southampton Avenues and bring work gloves, shovels, rakes and lots of energy.
If you can’t volunteer this Saturday, please consider coming to the Spring Work Day on Saturday, April 6 from 8:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. At this busy work day, volunteers will spread fresh mulch as ground coverage and add new sand to the sandbox. These efforts will prepare the playground for its increased utilization during the spring and summer months.
The playground and adjacent garden was built and is still maintained primarily by volunteers and community contributions. The Friends of the Children’s Park coordinate the Spring Cleans Up days and Spring Work days. This group conducts fundraisers and receives support from the Chestnut Hill Community Fund to meet its maintenance expenses.
This maintenance includes repairing equipment, laying mulch ground cover, replacing sand, planting trees, staining wooden play structures, repainting fences and gates, handling trash removal and maintaining the required insurances.
Other volunteer opportunities include fundraising, gardening, grounds maintenance and repair. Donations can be made directly to the park, or via United Way Donation. (United Way #4100). For more information, please call 215-284-1914 or email@example.com
