Balance's E. Highland Avenue location. The business will look for more room at the former Good Food Market spot on W. Willow Grove Avenue.

Balance Chestnut Hill, the personal training and fitness center at 12 E. Highland Ave. is moving to the W. Willow Grove Avenue location that once was the Good Food Market.

The business, owned by Aaron Sistrunk and Amy Carolla, is seeking a use variance for the Willow Grove Avenue location and plans a new, expanded 5,000-square-foot facility. It will do nothing to change the exterior of the building in any way other than to install its own signs.

In their application to the Chestnut Hill Community Association’s Development Review Committee – all businesses seeking variances are asked by the city to solicit the endorsement of their local civic association – Balance’s owners acknowledged that there would be an impact on on-street parking and some increase in noise and hours of operation.

The Good Food Market was criticized by neighbors who believed it would make parking on the already crowded W. Willow Grove corridor very difficult. After several months of operation, Good Food Market closed in March of 2010.

Balance appeared before the DRC last Tuesday and is due to appear again before the Land Use Planning and Zoning Committee at 7 p.m. Thursday, Feb 2, in the Chestnut Hill Hospital’s Main Level Conference Room, 8835 Germantown Ave.
