Madeleine Newbold Fleitas

Madeleine Newbold Fleitas, 90, a resident of Cathedral Village,  and the wife of the late J. Albury Fleitas, died quietly on January 16, 2012. Born in Philadelphia, she was the daughter of Richard S. and Anna Heckscher Newbold. She is survived by two sons, Allison F. II, of Chestnut Hill, and Rodney H., of Berwyn; a daughter, Nina Hanson of Syracuse, N.Y.; five grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A son, Albury Newbold “Sandy” Fleitas, preceded her in death. She is also survived by two sisters, Marie Hart of Ambler, and Cecile Curtis of Wimbleton, England. Mrs. Fleitas was a former member of the vestry at St. Paul’s Church in Chestnut Hill and a member of the Colonial Dames of America (Philadelphia Chapter). She devoted much her time to the historical Lemon Hill mansion. She was a member of Sunnybrook Golf Club and the Corinthian Yacht Club of Philadelphia. A memorial service is planned for Wednesday, January  25, 2012 at 3:30P.M. at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Chestnut Hill. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Melmark Home in Berwyn, PA.
