Obituaries

Barbara L. Young


Barbara Lou Young

Barbara Lou Young, 70, of Mt. Airy, a retired social worker, died Nov. 1 at Keystone Hospice in Wyndmoor.

Ms. Young retired in 2004 from the Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation of the City of Philadelphia, where she had been employed for 31 years. She began her career in social work with the Cleft Palate Team at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children and later was a social worker for Episcopal Family Services.

Born in Funkstown, Md., the daughter of the late Rev. Harry M. and Edith Young, Ms. Young was a graduate of Gettysburg College and the Smith College of Social Work.

She was a longtime member of Grace Lutheran Church of Wyndmoor and sang in the church choir for 33 years.

She is survived by a brother, the Rev. Martin T. Young; a niece, and two nephews. Another brother, David G. Young, preceded her in death.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 13, at Grace Lutheran Church, 801 E. Willow Grove Ave., Wyndmoor, PA 19038. Ms. Young donated her body to the Drexel University School of Medicine. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

 

Mary H. Bobbin


Mary H. (Busavage) Bobbin, 101, of Mt. Airy, a retired elementary school teacher, died Nov. 18 at Montgomery Rehab Center in Wyndmoor.

Mrs. Bobbin retired in 1980 from St. Cecelia’s Parish School in Rhawnhurst, where she had taught third and sixth grade for 30 years. Earlier she had taught in public schools in Gilberton, Pa.

She also had volunteered for many years at Northwestern Human Services and at Holy Cross Parish in Mt. Airy.

Mrs. Bobbin was a graduate of Kutztown Normal School (now Kutztown University).

She is survived by two daughters, Marianne Cinaglia and Eleanor McCaffrey; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren. Her husband, Albert F. Bobbin, and a daughter, Patricia Bobbin, preceded her in death.

A funeral Mass was celebrated Nov. 22 at Holy Cross Church, 154 E. Mt. Airy Ave., Philadelphia, PA 19119. Interment was at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the above church.

Mary D. Mooney

Mary D. “Embie” Mooney, 84, formerly of Flourtown, died Nov. 19 at Mercy Suburban Hospital.

Mrs. Mooney, the former Mary Dooly, had been living at Sunrise Assisted Living in Blue Bell.

She is survived by daughters Maureen Mooney, Sharon Mooney and Jo-Ann Watkins; and two grandsons. Her husband, William N. Mooney, preceded her in death.

A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Monday, Nov.24, at St. Genevieve’s Church, 1225 Bethlehem Pike, Flourtown. Friends may call at the church after 9:30 p.m. Interment will be at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph’s Villa, 100 W. Wissahickon Ave., Flourtown, PA 19031.
