Crime ReportThe following crimes were reported for the week of Nov. 16-23, 2008: Nov. 17. 8700 block of Seminole Ave. A homeowner told police that he left for vacation on Nov. 7 and when he returned on Nov. 17 he discovered six copper pipes were missing from his house. Nov. 17. 500 block of W. Willow Grove Ave. A cashbox that had been kept in the squash office at Chestnut Hill Academy was taken between Nov. 13 and 15. The box contained $884 in cash, $3556.50 in checks and two keys. Police said the office door was locked and there was no sign of forced entry. Many staff members at the school have keys to the office. Nov. 19. 7700 block of Crittenden St. A woman told police that she left her red leather wallet in the restroom at Pathmark at approximately 7 p.m. and when she returned to retrieve her wallet, she found the wallet at the customer service desk but it contents had been removed. Taken from the wallet was $118, medical identification and car registration cards. Nov. 20. 8800 block of Norwood Ave. A homeowner told police that someone removed copper pipes from the outside of her home, valued at $500, while she was out running errands at approximately 5 p.m. Nov. 21. 100 block of E. Chestnut Hill Ave. A 2002 black Chevy Cavalier was taken from a train station parking lot. The car’s owner told police the car was left there overnight after it wouldn’t start. The car is valued at $2,500. Nov. 22. 8700 block of Germantown Ave. Police arrested Elizabeth Powers, 43, of Oreland, for removing several items from Borders bookstore without paying. Powers was seen on video camera placing items into a red and white bag before leaving the store. Police recovered the items from the back seat of Power’s car in the parking lot where she deposited them before returning to the store where she was apprehended. Nov. 22. 100 block of W. Springfield Ave. A homeowner told police that two diamond earrings and other jewelry as well $100 in change was stolen from her house. It was reported at 4:30 p.m. and the items were valued at $1,100.
