Reese Pharmacy closes after 30 years After 30 years on the 8000 block of the Avenue, Reese Pharmacy is no more. “It happened just recently,” said Stephen Reses, who acquired the business and building in 2001. “We’ve been trying to hold off as long as we could, but CVS made an offer.” Reses would not disclose the financial details of the transaction, but he said that CVS corporate representatives had agreed to purchase the store’s inventory, including current customer prescription records. Additionally, Reses said that CVS has offered positions to all eight of his employees (two pharmacists and six sales associates). “CVS said they were trying to make everything as smooth a transition as possible between the employees and the customers,” Reses said. Reese Pharmacy closed officially on Monday. Former customers were able to get their prescriptions filled at CVS on Tuesday. Jennifer George, manager of the CVS at 7700 Germantown Ave., would not comment on the transition. Mike DeAngelis, a CVS corporate public relations representative, did not return a request for comment. Reses is planning to rent out his building to a new business, but he did not name a new tenant. He will also continue to rent out the three apartments above the store. By year’s end, nearly a dozen Chestnut Hill stores will have closed since September.
