ObituariesWinfred O. Harrington Mr. Harrington retired in 1974 from the USDA where he had been employed for 28 years. A native of Grey Eagle, Minn., he received a bachelor’s degree in chemistry from the University of California at Berkeley. After graduation he worked for the Ford Motor Co. at the Golden Gate International Exposition in 1939. Mr. Harrington was a captain in the Army during World War II, serving in the Pacific Theater. He remained in the Army Reserves after the war, rising to the rank of lieutenant colonel. He is survived by his wife, the former Ruth Haddox; sons Fred H. Harrington and Kent H. Harrington; daughters Jean E. D’Angelo and Ann L. Mason; a former daughter-in-law, Nora Harrington; eight grandchildren, and one great grandchild. Funeral services were held Nov. 3 at Kirk & Nice Inc., Plymouth Meeting. Entombment was at George Washington Memorial Park. Richard E. Snodgrass Mr. Snodgrass, a native of Columbus, Ohio, was a retired executive of the Harsco Corp. of Camp Hill, Pa. He served in the Army during World War II. He is survived by his wife, the former Mary Ann Campbell; daughters Dr. Bethanne Snodgrass of Toledo, Ohio, and Lori Snodgrass of Chestnut Hill, and three grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 15, in the family residence at The Hill at Whitemarsh. Interment was private. Karen B. McMeekin Mrs. McMeekin had served on the boards of the Chestnut Hill Community Association and the Chestnut Hill Healthcare Foundation, and was chair of the Chestnut Hill Committee of the Philadelphia Orchestra. She had served for many years as a guide at the Philadelphia Museum of Art and continued to serve as a graduate guide. Mrs. McMeekin had worked as a salesperson for Emlen Realtors and earlier as a buyer for young women’s clothing at Strawbridge & Clothier department stores. She was a longtime member of the Episcopal Academy Parents Association, which honored her for 33 years of service. She also was a member of the Acorn Club, the Greene Countrie Garden Club and the East Falls Book Club. She is survived by her husband, John C. McMeekin; sons John Christie II, Andrew Hathorn and Christopher Bosler McMeekin; a sister, Sehoy Welshofer; a brother, William Bosler, and four grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, at the Class of 1944 Chapel, The Episcopal Academy, 1785 Bishop White Drive, Newtown Square. The service will be followed by a reception at the Aronimink Country Club. Memorial contributions may be made to the Delaware County Hospital Regional Cancer Center, 501 North Lansdowne Ave., Drexel Hill, PA 19026.
Dr. James R. Powell A native of Scranton, he received a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Scranton, a master’s degree in education from the University of Pennsylvania and a doctorate in education from Temple University. He served in the Army during the Korean War. Dr. Powell is survived by a sister, Eugenia Setzer, and many nieces and nephews. A daughter, Cecelia; a brother, Thomas, and a sister, Lois Davis preceded him in death. A funeral Mass was held at Our Mother of Consolation Church, 9 E. Chestnut Hill Ave., Phila., PA 19118 on November 4. Interment was private. Memorial contributions may be made to the above church.
