Crime ReportThe following crimes are from the week of July 27 to Aug. 3, 2008: July 28. 100 block of W. Mermaid Lane. A 50-year-old housekeeper returned to work after a weekend off to find her employer’s house burglarized. She told police she had locked the doors and set the security alarm before leaving the previous Friday afternoon, but the back door was broken open when she went back to work. Records indicated that the alarm was never set off. Taken from the house were a 42-inch high-definition TV and a jewelry box containing five earrings, three necklaces, three rings and a watch. Much of the jewelry was reportedly gold-colored, but it was not clear whether it was made of gold. The loss is estimated at $52,000. No suspects were identified. July 29. 300 block of W. Gravers Lane. The 30-year-old son of the homeowners told police his parents’ house had been entered through an unlocked rear door while they were away on vacation. An estimated $1,500 worth of clothing and jewelry was taken. No suspects were identified. July 30. 7600 block of Stenton Ave. Following an argument about money, a 46-year-old man and 42-year-old woman began to strike one another. The fight grew more violent when the man bit the woman’s hand, drawing blood and leaving a visible mark. The woman then attempted to rip the man’s left ear off by the lobe. Neither person was cooperative with police investigators. The man agreed to leave the house for the night and police left without further incident. July 31. Unit block of Evergreen Ave. Unknown suspects took an $850 laptop computer from an office overnight. Aug. 3. 100 block of Rex St. A 32-year-old resident returned from work to find an LCD TV, two digital cameras and several credit cards missing from his home. The front and back doors were left open — as were a few kitchen drawers. There were no signs of forced entry. Police found fingerprints and a brown leather wallet at the home. No suspects were identified.
