Correction Last week the Local carried a correction to a front-page item from our April 10 issue that stated Harris Wofford was a state senator. Our correction noted he was a U.S. Senator but errantly and embarrassingly claimed he was such for 23 years. The sentence should have read 3 years. Wofford became a U.S. Senator when Gov. Bob Casey appointed him on May 9, 1991 to fill the seat left vacant following the death of Senator John Heinz. He won a special election in November 1991 against former Pennsylvania Governor Dick Thornburgh but lost three years later, in 1994, to Republican challenger Rick Santorum.
