Good weather, heartbreaking tales kick off walk
Beautiful autumn weather — sunny and in the 60s — greeted approximately 250 people who converged on Chestnut Hill’s Fountain Plaza on the 8700 block of Germantown Avenue to don purple T-shirts and walk two miles to raise funds for and awareness of domestic violence prevention.
30-unit condo complex OK’d Springfield Township’s Zoning Board approved the development of a three-story, 30-unit condominium building at 9425 Stenton Ave. on Mon, Oct. 15. Neighbors opposing the project were disappointed after the decision was announced and said they will likely appeal the board’s decision.
The Mount’s national standout Reinprecht picks Princeton
The list of 33 field hockey players who make up the 2007-2008 USA National Squad and Developmental Squad contains an anomaly. Along with current college stars and seasoned international competitors in their mid and late 20s, the roster includes the name of just one high school athlete; Mount St. Joseph Academy’s Katie Reinprecht. Part of a very talented senior class, Reinprecht has helped lift the Magic from first-round elimination in the 2004 state tournament to Class AAA State Runner-up in 2006 and a top 10 national ranking this fall. The preeminent college programs lined up to recruit her, and recently the senior midfielder ended their quest by verbally committing to follow her older sister, Sarah, to Princeton University.
GFS soccer tops Moorestown
Despite some sluggish play, the Germantown Friends soccer team fought off the feisty Morrestown Friends Foxes 3-0 on Tuesday afternoon at A.A. Smith field. With the win the Tigers improve to 5-0 in conference play and remain atop the league standings. Despite the somewhat lopsided score, the Foxes gave the Tigers all they could handle. GFS did not seem as sharp as it had been in previous games throughout the first half. “You are going to have your ups and downs throughout the course of a season,” said Tigers Head Coach Matt Zipin. “We have played consistantly well all year. This was the first game I felt that we did not play all that well. But when you can play poorly and still win, it shows the mark of a good team.” In the early going, it was the Foxes who were the aggressors, controlling possession of the ball in the midfield. Despite the Foxes ability to control the ball, they could not penetrate the Tiger defense, anchored by Owen Smith of Lafayette Hill. |

Only Hill-area movie theater yet to find audience The “Little Theater” is empty, but sounds like it’s packed. The opening act plays with panache. Bruce Springsteen’s gritty voice saws through the speakers as his E-Street Band sways in staggered formation.
