Conor O’Brien, rising senior at Chestnut Hill Academy, was recognized for his academic achievements at CHA’s recent Prize Day preceding graduation. In addition to being first in his class, he received the Harvard Book Prize, which recognizes an outstanding student in the next to graduating class who displays excellence in scholarship and high character, combined with achievement in other fields. Beyond academics, Conor is actively involved in the school’s robotics program and jazz ensemble.


 

 

 



CHA STUDENTS HONORED: Rising Chestnut Hill Academy seniors Tom Culp, left, and Taylor Agate, both of Chestnut Hill, received the Alumni Silver Award, one of the school’s top honors, at CHA’s recent Commencement. The award is given in recognition of a student below the senior class who best exemplifies the characteristics of leadership, academic standing, character, and service to Chestnut Hill Academy. Taylor also received the Robert A. Kingsley Scholarship, which honors a student below the senior class who has shown the highest degree of academic promise and scholarship, along with the most responsible type of leadership.

 

FUNDRAISER ON HILL: On Sunday Sept. 9, Artman’s Eighth Annual Tennis Outing will be held at the Philadelphia Cricket Club, 415 W. Willow Grove Ave., Chestnut Hill. Tennis on the grass from 1 to 4 p.m., with supper and live music on the porch beginning at 4:30. The proceeds will go to the Artman Benevolent Care Fund, which benefits residents who have outlived their assets. Artman, at 250 N. Bethlehem Pike, Ambler, offers assisted living, rehabilitation, nursing and hospice care. “You don’t have to play tennis to enjoy this delightful day and supper on the porch,” said event chairperson Mrs. Nina Lamprecht (seen here with Jim Land). DYLAN-LIKE SOUNDS: Walk a Crooked Mile Books is welcoming back to its free concert series local singer/songwriter Drew Calvin for a concert on Saturday, July 28, 7-9 p.m. Drew has honed his fingerpicking guitar style over 35 years of playing country, blues, and folk in the style of Bob Dylan and Woody Guthrie. This is an outdoor concert at the Mount Airy Train Station, Gowen and Devon, and the raindate is Tuesday, July 31. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. For information, call 215-242-0854.
