Louis Francis Aiello III

Louis Francis Aiello III

Louis Francis Aiello III, 45, of Charleston, W.Va, formerly of Chestnut Hill, died of cancer June 16 at his home.

Mr. Aiello, the son of Chestnut Hill Community Association board members Louis and Elaine Aiello, was born and raised in Chestnut Hill. He was a graduate of Norwood-Fontbonne Academy, Chestnut Hill Academy, and Villanova University, where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering. He also held a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Charleston.

At the time of his death, he was an engineering supervisor at the West Virginia-American Water Company for the Leak Detection and Distribution departments. Prior to working for West Virginia-American Water, he was employed as a mechanical engineer in the Instrumentation Department at the U. S. Naval Base in Philadelphia.

Mr. Aiello was involved in a host of activities and organizations that touched many people in his community. He was a member of Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral Parish in Charleston where he served as a lector and coached several grade school sports teams, including tee ball, soccer, hockey, basketball and baseball.

He was a founding member of St. Michael the Archangel Council of the Knights of Columbus in Charleston and was the chartered organization representative of Cub Scout Pack 28. He also was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity.

He was a member of the Charleston Chamber of Commerce, earning Ambassador of the Year honors, and was a committee member of the American Water Works Association. He was a member of Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Aiello is survived by his wife, Susan Kawash Aiello; sons Michael and Andrew; daughters Maria and Sarah; a brother, Christopher Aiello (Krista) of Plymouth Meeting; sisters Gina Aiello of Spring City, Pa., Mariann Haselman of Richmond, Va., and Lisa Laws (Robert) of North Cape May, N.J.

A Mass of Christian burial was celebrated at Sacred Heart Co-Cathedral in Charleston on June 20. A memorial Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, July 28, at Our Mother of Consolation Church in Chestnut Hill.

Memorial contributions may be made to a family trust established to assist the Aiello family’s financial needs. Polly P. Trafford

Polly P. Trafford, 93,of Wyndmoor, died June 25 at Chestnut Hill Hospital.

Mrs. Trafford was the wife of the late Perry D. Trafford Jr. She is survived by her son, Perry Trafford; daughters Ann E. Gordy (Peter) and Melinda Trafford Cassidy; and three grandchildren.

The funeral service is private.
