Rosina M. Schwartz

Rosina Malpass Schwartz

Rosina Malpass Schwartz, 98, of Chestnut Hill, died May 21 at her home.

A native of Ireland, Mrs. Schwartz came to Philadelphia with her mother, Alice Turner Malpass, and settled in Chestnut Hill.

She was married to the late Walter Marshall Schwartz Jr., a World War II fighter pilot who won the Distinguished Flying Cross for outstanding bravery. The couple married in Bakersfield, Calif., shortly before Mr. Schwartz joined the RAF.

During her husband’s absence, Mrs. Schwartz lived in Mt. Airy with his family, and served as a nurse’s aide at local hospitals to help with the war effort. After the war, the couple resided in Chestnut Hill.

She is survived by two daughters, Susan Backus Myers and Lillian Schwartz Hord, and six grandchildren.

A service to celebrate her life will be held noon Friday, June 1, at St. Paul’s Church, 22 East Chestnut Hill Ave.

Lois Jordan Cheston

Lois Jordan Cheston

Lois Jordan Cheston, 85, a native of Chestnut Hill, died April 21 at Beaumont at Bryn Mawr.

A lifelong horsewoman, Mrs. Cheston spent many days fox hunting with friends and family in Chester County.

During World War II, she was a Red Cross volunteer at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania. Later she was a volunteer at Jennersville Hospital in West Grove, Pa., where she received the Volunteer of the Year award in 1996.

Mrs. Cheston was the wife of the late Frazier Cheston.

Mrs. Cheston is survived by a son, Brooke; daughters Linda, Laura and Mary, and four grandchildren

A memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, June 9, at Beaumont at Bryn Mawr.
