CHA squash wins on road
by John O’Reilly

CHA seniors Wayne Crawford and Tyler Ahrenhold signed letters of intent to play football at N.C. State and Penn State, respectively. Crawford has been offered a full scholarship and will play defensive tackle or offensive guard, the positions he played during CHA’s first season back in the football Inter-Ac since 1972. Ahrenhold has been accepted at Penn State as a preferred walk-on and will play defensive back or possibly receiver.

Chestnut Hill Academy’s boy’s varsity squash team avenged defeat at home earlier in the month to Episcopal Academy by pulling out an exhilarating 4-3 victory on enemy soil.

Playing against a strong EA side, CHA lost their first match badly, with Tyler Stout getting shut out 0-3 by first-rounder Todd Harrity. They quickly brushed that loss aside and won the next four consecutive matches in dominant fashion.

Second and third-rounders Steve Wetherill and Chip Culp both won their matches 3-1 while the next two games were swept 3-0 by both Dylan Ward and Jack Maine.

Even CHA’s two losses by Dylan Tracy and Ross Richardson were hard-fought, with the two slogging through tough competition to force a fifth and final match despite losing both games 2-3.

The winning ways returned during the two exhibition matches, where Mike Biggans (3-2) and Nick DiDonato (2-0) beat their EA counterparts.

This win brings CHA’s season win percentage back to .500 with a respectable 5-5 record. They hope the swagger gained against their rivals will continue at their next match versus Malvern Academy.

Just two years removed from an Inter-Ac league championship, the struggling Blue Devils hope that this will spark their play and lead them back to their winning ways.
