Senior Center The weather outside may be frightful, but the energy and variety of programs inside the Chestnut Hill Activities Center continue unabated. You can begin your day, first thing on Monday, Tuesday and Thursday mornings, with low-impact aerobics. Tai Chi on Wednesdays will improve your balance and relieve stress. Friday yoga (both traditional and “armchair” sessions) will increase flexibility while offering a chance to meditate. Two different book discussion groups tempt the bibliophiles among us (the “great authors” on Mondays mornings, short stories every Thursday afternoon). Wonderful sewing and other craft projects are created each Monday morning by our Needlecraft Group and are for sale all year long whenever the Activities Center is open. Crochet and knitting happens on Friday afternoons with the finished projects going to those in need. For those looking for another sort of creative outlet, come to our Art Workshop on Wednesday mornings (featuring instruction in water colors, pastels, charcoal). You may play bridge, and if so, are welcome to join the games on Wednesday and Thursday at noon. Pinochle games are on the calendar two Tuesday mornings a month; scrabble on the alternate Tuesdays; chess every Friday afternoon (lessons can be scheduled with our “chess master” on other days of the week if you wish). Delia Melograna looks forward to returning to lead the Intermediate and Advanced Italian classes on Monday, February 5. The cost for this 12-session course of study is $75 ($85 for non-members of the Adult Activities Center). Bill Farmer will return to teach Basic Bridge on Monday, March 5. The price of 10 lessons will be $55 ($60 for non-members). Spanish classes continue to be on leave, but a members of last year’s classes are forming a Spanish conversation group to meet in the daytime; members of the community are invited to join them. On Wednesday, Feb. 7 join the Center’s luncheon/theater trip to “Ethel Waters: His eye is on the sparrow” in Bristol; and from June 10-15 be part of a fabulous excursion to Mackinac Island, the Henry Ford Museum and Greenfield Village. Deposit deadlines for both are Jan. 31. Contact the Chestnut Hill Adult Activities Center office for more information about any of our classes, special programs and trips.
