GFS cross-country runners excel at Footlocker Northeast Regional Championships

On the Saturday after Thanksgiving, the Germantown Friends School cross-country runners traveled to Van Cortlandt Park in Bronx, New York for the Foot Locker Northeast Regional Championships.

Hundreds of high school runners competed from the Northeast Region which consists of Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware, District of Columbia, Vermont, Rhode Island,

Massachusetts, Maine and New Hampshire. In the boys competition, GFS juniors Max Kaulbach (25th, 15:54) and Jake McKenzie (117th, 16:55) raced in the “Seeded Race” from which the top 10 of the 257

finishers earn the right to compete at the National Championships. Max, coming in 4th among Pennsylvania runners in this race, just missed All-Team honors by less than one second. Gus McKenzie was another top performer earning 2nd Team All Freshman Northeast Honors finishing 9th in a time of 17:34. He was the fastest of the Pennsylvania runners in his race.

The GFS girls cross-country team was represented by senior Ceci Davis-Hayes, who finished 101st out of 276 (19:51) in the “Seeded Race”. Jasia Kaulbach earned 10th in the Freshman

Girls race (20:10) in a field of 127 runners.
