Germantown Friends School field hockey ties in overtime
In the first half, GFS dominated the field of play and created numerous shots and corner play opportunities. The midfield led by senior co-captains Carolyn Tilney and Becky Childs and junior Katie Low all played an integral role in bringing the ball into the circle and giving the Tiger forwards opportunities to shoot. During the second half, Westtown opened with some strong play but the Tigers defense was relentless in forcing them back. GFS juniors Anna Bak and Becca Williams marked their girls tightly and came up with numerous tackles to dispossess the ball and send it up to the offense. GFS sophomore Annie Tickell had another strong showing in goal, recording her second shut out with 10 saves. With the score tied 0-0 at the end of the second half, the teams played a 10-minute seven-a-side overtime period. Although the crowd and sidelines provided tremendous energy and spirit, the Tigers could not find the back of the net to get the win. |
