Rummage sale nets $33,000 for charity The annual St. Paul’s Church in Chestnut Hill rummage sale was advertised as its largest, and proved so with the $33,000 it raised at the close of the sale, more than any other sale in the 20 years Karen Richter, the events co-chair, has been a member of the church. The rummage sale on Saturday, Sept. 9, brought 1,300 to the church at 22 E. Chestnut Hill Ave. The church had already raised $10,000 through its volunteer pre-sale and Friday night’s public pre-sale. Richter, said, 95 percent of the money raised this year will go to non-profit organizations in the Northwest, including Chestnut Hill Meals on Wheels, The Catherine Laboure Clinic in Germantown and Community Cupboard in Ambler. The church has a grant program that focuses on providing smaller, local non-profit organizations (with budgets of less than $300,000) with grant money. St. Paul’s Church in Chestnut Hill also donates the left over merchandise to organizations after the sale.Richter said St. Paul’s Church will be looking for grant proposals early this fall. |
