GFS field house wins award
Germantown Friends School’s Field House has received a 2006 Facility of Merit Award from Athletic Business, a resource for athletic, fitness and recreation professionals. The facility was selected from among 81 Architectural Showcase entries. The GFS Field House, completed in 2004, is primarily used for athletic instruction and practice for middle school students, and for upper school athletic practices. The Field House embraces green building technology and sustainable design, while fitting into the sensitive historic fabric of the neighborhood. It previously received a 2006 American Institute ofArchitects Pennsylvania Design award, and an award for excellence in craftsmanship from the General Contractors and Builders Association. It was designed by Bohlin, Cywinski & Jackson architects. The GFS Field House, at the corner of Greene Street and School House Lane, is one of three full-court gyms on the campus of Germantown Friends School, a K-12 Quaker day school for boys and girls. The Field House will be part of the school’s Open House tours on October 14 and November 10, 2006. |
