CHA student hits mark in National Rifle Competition
Over the summer, CHA senior Matthew Fingerman had his sights on something other than schoolwork as he competed in the 2006 National Outdoor Rifle and Pistol Championships in Ohio, where, in his age group, he placed second nationally in the Metallic Sight Matches (no scopes) and sixth nationally in the Any Sights Matches. His performance won him fourth place overall in his division at the National Smallbore Rifle NRA Three-Position Championship. Impressed by his performance at the competition, the Pennsylvania State Team invited him to shoot as a member of their Sharpshooter Division, which took second place at the championship. Matt’s interest in shooting began when he was 11 years old and visited the Olympic Training Center in Colorado where he saw some of the nation’s best marksmen and women and also met the man who would later become his coach. He has been training intensely and winning competitions ever since. Last year, in recognition of his commitment to his sport, CHA agreed to let his training serve as fulfillment of the school’s sport requirement. “I can’t be happier with CHA,” says Fingerman. “They allowed me to pursue my passion. Without their encouragement and support this success would just be a dream..” |
