Senior Center

There is still time to join the Chestnut Hill Senior Center bus trip to Broadway. If an afternoon of musical comedy, luncheon at a fine restaurant, traveling to and from Manhattan by deluxe motor coach all appeals to you, mark your calendar for Saturday, Oct. 14. The show is Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, starring Keith Carradine; the restaurant is Salmon River in the Fifth Avenue Marriott; a $100 deposit made on or before Aug. 18, will guarantee your place. Anyone over 21 is invited to be part of this adventure. For more information, call the Senior Center today at 215-248-0180 or email chseniors@juno.com.

The lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer may have slowed the pace at Chestnut Hill’s Senior Center, but Aerobics (three mornings a week), Bridge (twice a week), Tai Chi, Knitting, Needle, and other crafts, all continue on the usual schedule. The Walking Group will step off Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m.; and you can find a scrabble, pinochle or chess game at least every other week. As always, coffee, tea, spring water and other cold drinks are available; and the Center’s air-conditioning can help you cope with the “dog days.” Everyone (senior citizen or not, Chestnut Hill resident or not) is welcome to drop in, Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. till 3 p.m. Where? 7999 Crittenden Street.

After Labor Day, look for these classes and activities to resume: Short Story Discussion (12:30 Thursday, Sept. 7), Yoga & Armchair Yoga (Friday, September 8), Great Books (10:30 Monday, September 11), French Conversation group (Monday, Sept. 11 at 2:30), Italian (10-week session of intermediate and advanced classes, beginning Monday morning, Sept. 25), Spanish (6-week entry-level class begins Tuesday morning, October 3). First Friday at One (Sept. 8) will showcase the Senior Center’s Assistant Director Sue Davis whose journey home for a visit with ‘mum’ took her across the pond to England.
