Annual police, firefighters and postal workers picnic is July 19

It’s the middle of summer and the Chestnut Hill Community Association is holding once again its annual celebration and picnic honoring police officers, firefighters and postal workers.

The festivities take place Wednesday, July 19, starting at 6 p.m. at Pastorius Park. Police, fire and postal workers and their immediate family members — as well as all children under eight-years-old — are treated to free food and refreshments followed by a concert in the park at 7:30 p.m. by Hot House, a “great American jazz” band. The charge for others is $7.50 per person.

This is the eighth consecutive year the CHCA has sponsored the picnic and concert in honor of the public servants.

“We are especially indebted to these workers serving our community,” CHCA social division vice president Jane Piotrowski said. “It’s a great time for the community to come out and show their suppport for all these people.”

Piotrowski has been working with Betty Brady, Dina Hitchcock, Ann Spaeth, Wendy Williams, Chris Kemezis, Elaine Aiello, Meredith Sonderscov, Dick Martin and Maxine Dornemann, among others.

Paul Roller and Ann McNally along with Tom Ivory and Greg Welsh have coordinated their talents to provide food and beverages for this year’s picnic. The dinner will feature traditional picnic and barbecue fare.

“The picnic allows Chestnut Hill to show its appreciation for everything these people do, both behind the scenes and in the everday performance of their duties,” Piotrowski added. “It’s also a great opportunity for people to get to know their neighbors and other members of the Chestnut Hill community.”

Piotrowski reminds everyone that reservations should be made by calling the CHCA office (215-248-8810) or completing the coupon published on this page of the Local. Payment may be made at the picnic, but reservations are encouraged.

“Come on out and thank them,” Piotrowski concluded. “It will be a great evening.”
