Mount Airy native headed for South Florida soccer Mallori Lofton-Malachi of Mount Airy has been selected to play Division I soccer with the University of South Florida, Tampa, next year. The women’s soccer coach at South Florida, T. Logan Fleck, called Lofton-Malachi a highly talented goalkeeper. The graduate of Central High School was an All-Public Second Team Honoree in 2004, and elevated her play the next year to earn first-team honors. She played lub ball for the West Chester United Predators, helping to lead the team to three-consecutive state championship titles, in 2003-05, and to the Region I League Championship in 2004. A three-sport athlete – basketball, volleyball and soccer – she was a member of the Eastern Pennsylvania ODP State Team in 2003. “Mallori is a very talented and athletic young lady,” Fleck is quoted as saying. “She is going to fight for game time with Casey Garret at the goalkeeper position right away. She is going to increase our depth in the net tremendously.” Lofton-Malachi came up through the ranks of the Chestnut Hill Father’s Club, now known as the Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Club. |
