maluBABY JACOB. On April 4, the Chestnut Hill Local welcomed it newest addition, Jacob Sinjin Simmons, son of Advertising Sales Representative Kaya Simmons and her husband Roy. Jacob was born at Chestnut Hill Hospital and weighed 7 lbs. 6 oz.

govMAY DAY. In what is a long-treasured Springside tradition, eighth graders are honored at May Day while each grade performs dance routines for them. This culminates in the seventh grade maypole dance; they are pictured here weaving the ribbons around the maypole. After that, the leadership for next year passes in the form of decorated May Day sticks from each eighth grader to a seventh grader. Friday, May 5 was a spectacularly beautiful day for the event.

Cum Laude. Springside School held its first ever Cum Laude Assembly to honor girls who are intellectually curious, who have consistently produced superior work, and whose attitudes and character show them to be devoted to the school and to the idea of a community of learners. Audrey McNiff, the speaker for the assembly, is the embodiment of those ideals. She is a partner at Goldman Sachs in New York City and is the global co-head of the derivatives prime brokerage practice. Of the more than 22,000 employees at Goldman Sachs, the number of women at her level is in the single digits. Her work and her success do honor to the ideals of the Cum Laude Society. Members of the Cum Laude Society (from back left) are Lua O’Brien (inducted in 2005), Rachel deBerardinis, Emery Maine, Jane Gray (inducted in 2005), Karyn Kesselring, and Rachel Frank. First row from left includes Emma McClafferty, Hannah McDonnell, Rachael Ellis, Alexandra Levitt, and Emily Bilger. Not pictured is Elizabeth Fox (inducted in 2005).

Local businesses and volunteers peppered the Avenue’s sidewalks with new trees on Tuesday, in a project initiated by the Business Improvement District.
