Christian greeting cards to be introduced on Hill
by EMILY DAWSON

LAW Inspiration Enterprises, fresh into producing Christian literary materials, is preparing to publicly introduce a new line of Christian greeting cards that break tradition and communicate inspirational messages to groups such as women in ministry, people in prison, young parents and others needing a word up.

Formally, the cards will be presented at an event titled, “If Cards Could Preach,” set for Saturday, April 15, and Saturday, May 13. Both events start at 12 p.m. at CLC Bookcenter in the Market Square Shopping Center, 7700 Crittenden St. Liz A. Womack, card writer and founder of LAW Inspiration Enterprises, will present the card line by sharing the stories behind them and her motivation for their creation. The cards, just in time for Easter and Mother’s Day, are already on sale at CLC.

“Everybody buys greeting cards. And yet, when Christians go to pick up a card, the choices are extremely limited and the messages are fluffy. We settle for what is there,” said Womack of Media. “Hallmark has a division called ‘Day Spring,’ and they are very sweet and encouraging, but they don’t necessarily minister a message.”

LAW Inspiration’s cards offer Christians a viable option that they can relate to in language and in message, says Womack. This point is underscored by the cards’ tagline, “ . . . especially designed with the saints in mind.”

Explains Womack, “It is important for the public and particularly Christians to know that these new cards point to faith in Jesus as the answer for those seeking hope and solutions in our local and global worlds that are rife with raw social, economic and political troubles.

“If we consider headlines alone, we, meaning Christians cannot afford to soft-pedal our faith in Jesus or overlook groups of people who need a ministering word of encouragement or comfort.” Womack is a Sunday School superintendent and teacher of teens at Holy Temple Church of God in Christ in West Philadelphia and has conducted seminars on church related topics. Her professional background includes journalism and public relations.

Womack says her personal dissatisfaction with current cards on the market was so heavy and lingering that she was moved to start producing ones that she believes go further in relating to card recipients. “Greeting cards, whether given for a holiday or during a life event, such as a birthday, can be a Christian’s chance to ‘legally’ share the gospel with unbelievers or to help raise the head of a burdened believer.”

In 2005 she wrote and released her first book, Stir Up Your Gift! The book, which challenges Christians to identify and use their God-given talents to make a difference in our society, sold out by year’s end. The proceeds were earmarked for five Sunday School graduates currently attending college. Womack says it was during the spring of 2005 when she formally produced cards for Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. In taking another leap out of the greeting card box, this year’s cards will include sentiments for mothers in prison. Card prices range from 75 cents to $4.95. DuBose Printing at 7200 Haverford Ave. designs and prints the cards.

LAW Inspiration’s cards veer from mainstream cards in several other ways. For example, some card category names include: You Can Make It, Light in Sickness, Ministry is for You, Home-going Sentiments and Celebrate Singles. Prospective customers can also expect to find cards specifically devoted to popular church roles such as pastor, Sunday School teacher, church mother and first lady etc. Some of the cards make reference to people in the bible. As well, select cards include a dedication to individuals past and present who have made notable contributions. Womack says the current dedications are not exhaustive.

Concludes Womack: “In the bible, Jesus says that believers are the ‘the salt of the earth’ and a light to those around us. To me this means that we should naturally standout for good in our actions and in what we say. That is exactly what LAW Inspiration’s cards intend to do – standout for Jesus.”
