Blind artists’ show at Allens Lane “My Vision: Sculpture & Paintings by Physically Challenged Artists” features work by artists in Allens Lane Art Center’s Vision Thru Art program for the blind and visually impaired and work by members of NuVisions for Disabled Artists. The exhibit includes sculpture in a variety of media including clay, plaster, wood, papier-mache and cardboard. Paintings and mixed media will round out the show. “My Vision” will be a sampling of the best work of both groups. Approximately 25 artists will be showing their work in the gallery at Allens Lane Art Center in Mt. Airy. The exhibit is currently running through May 5. Vision Thru Art is a weekly sculpture class for people who are vision-impaired or blind. Since 1988, artist Robert Fluhr has taught the class as a volunteer. He has helped students learn how to express their inner vision by working with a variety of media. Students’ work has been accepted into numerous international juried shows including the National Exhibit of Blind Artists, Art Ability at Bryn Mawr Rehab and Artists with Disabilities at Princeton University. Consistently, their work wins top awards at these prestigious shows. The nonprofit NuVisions for Disabled Artists, Inc. contributes to the disabled community by selling unique, hand-made art (canvas artwork, statues, mechanical art, etc.) to raise public awareness and motivate and give back to the disabled community. The group’s dozens of members have exhibited their artwork and won local, regional, national and international awards and recognition. Gallery hours are Monday through Friday from 11am to 5pm and evenings and weekends by appointment. For more information and images, go to www.allenslane.org or call 215-248-0546. Allens Lane Art Center is located at 601 West Allens Lane in West Mt. Airy. |
