SECRETS REVEALED: Janet Taylor, founder of a 10-year-old

Springside School student Hannah Brazier,
10, (left) received an African hair-braiding from Shadonna Truitt
at Springside and Chestnut Hill Academy’s Multicultural and
Diversity Festival on Sunday, March19. Booths with activities such
as African storytelling, Armenian backgammon and the application
of henna tattoos lined the hallways. Music and dance entertainment
was provided by the Milagro Brothers, Voloshky Ukrainian Dance Ensemble
and the Moving Arts Studio of Mt. Airy. Zoe Aloise, 9, of Chestnut

Jordan Dillard of Mt. Airy, along
with about 70 other community members, attended the Town Hall meeting
on Thursday, March 16, with state Rep. Cherelle L. Parker (200th
District) at the Holy Cross Catholic Church, in Mt. Airy. Representatives
from a variety of groups, including the 14th Police District, Philadelphia
Gas Works and the Neighborhood Interfaith Movement were at the meeting
to address community concerns. Parker’s next Town Hall meeting
is scheduled from 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 6, at the Chestnut
Hill Library, 8711 Germantown Ave

Students perform in last
year’s production of Fiddler On the Roof, the final
show of last year’s Young Performers Theater Camp, sponsored
by the city’s Department of Recreation at the University of
Pennsylvania’s Annenberg Center. Ages 9 through 18 are invited
to join the camp, which allows students to major in either dance
or musical theater. Students ages 6 through 10 are invited to participate
in the Introduction to the Performing Arts, hosted at three locations
in the city, including the Waterview Recreation Center at Rittenhouse

Courtney Franklin of Chestnut
Hill was recently promoted to team leader of the Blue Bell
office of Keller Williams Real Estate. Prior to joining Keller Williams
in 2004, Franklin was a top-producing agent with Weichert Real Estate
in Blue Bell.
Jane H. Affleck of Wyndmoor is one of 10 students from St. Lawrence
University in Canton, N.Y., who participated in a three-week community-based
learning course in Senegal during the January break.
The students participated in the course Senegalese Culture and Society,
which included cultural orientation in Dakar, followed by internships
in a traditional-medicine hospital and school; an eco-tourism tortoise
village; and a nursery school. While participating in the internships,
students were housed with local families. Back on campus, all of
the students who participated in the experience collaborated on
a multi-media presentation that was open to the public.
Affleck is a 2002 graduate of the William Penn Charter School, and
a senior English major at St. Lawrence. In 2004, Affleck studied
in Kenya, through the University’s International and Intercultural
Studies program. She is a member of Kappa Kappa Gamma sorority and
the women’s squash team.
