Obituaries
John Medosch John Edward Medosch Jr., 38, formerly of Chestnut Hill, died on March 6 in Frederick, Md. Mr. Medosch was born in Cincinnati, Ohio. He was the son of John and Danna Medosch. He attended Lakewood Prep in Lakewood, N.J. and Georgetown University. He spent a year studying at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland and received his J.D. from Catholic Law School. He worked at the Center for Strategic and International Studies in Washington, D.C. He also worked as an acquisitions attorney at the law firms of Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher in Washington, D.C. and Drinker, Biddle & Reath in Philadelphia. Mr. Medosch is survived by his wife, Susan; three daughters, Katie, Annie, Lily; a son Sheridan (Sam). A funeral service was held on March 11 at St. John the Evangelist Church in Frederick, Md.
Frank Schatz Frank Schatz, 101, of Bellingham, East Goshen, died on March 2 at Paoli Memorial Hospital. Mr. Schatz was born in Omaha, Nebraska in 1904 to Polish immigrant parents. Mr. Schatz was the husband of the late Miriam (Rosen) Schatz. He worked in engineering before he and his wife opened Fireside Books and Toys in Chestnut Hill. Mr. Schatz is survived by two daughters, Sandra Ruben of Pittsburgh, Penn. and Debby Kern of West Chester, Penn.; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Mary Dillon Mary Ellen Dillon, 62, of Lafayette Hill, died suddenly on March 11 at the Chestnut Hill Hospital. Mrs. Dillon was born in Chicago, Ill., the daughter of the late J. Warren and Agnes (Larkin) McCaffrey. She graduated from the Academy of the Sacred Heart in Lake Forest, Ill., St. Mary’s College in 1965 and went on for her master’s degree at Saint Charles Seminary. She was a retired teacher for The United Cerebral Palsy Foundation in Chestnut Hill, a former educational supervisor for The Northern Indiana Children’s Hospital, and a teacher at the Montgomery County Association for the Mentally Retarded. After retiring in 1999, she volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House. Mrs. Dillon was a member and former lector and Eucharistic minister at Saint Philip Neri Church in Lafayette Hill, a member of the church’s Women’s Guild and a member of the Appalachian Hiking Club. Mrs. Dillon is survived by her husband of 40 years, Michael R. Dillon; a daughter, Anne Therese Dillon of Audubon, PA; two sons, Michael Dillon of Phoenixville, PA and Peter Dillon of Lafayette Hill; a sister, Therese McConville of York, PA; one brother, John W. McCaffrey of Chicago, Ill; and five grandchildren. A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, March 15 at 11 a.m. in the Saint Philip Neri Church, 437 Ridge Pike, Lafayette Hill. Friends may call from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will take place at the Calvary Cemetery, West Conshohocken. Ruth Wieland Ruth (Everitt) Wieland, of Chestnut Hill, died on March 9. She was the wife of the late A. Jack Wieland. Mrs. Wieland is survived by her daughter Jean Spears (Charles), a grandson, Andrew Spears (Jennifer) and nieces and nephews. Hebard Service A funeral service for Jean Ballard Hebard will be held on Saturday, April 1 at noon at St. Mary’s Church, Cathedral Village, 600 E. Cathedral Rd. in Roxborough. Mrs. Hebard died on Feb. 27 at Cathedral Village. She is survived by her two children, Frances Wells Johnson of Darnestown, Md. and Rolla Wells of Alfred, Maine; three grandsons and one great-grandson. Ashmead Service Duffield Ashmead III died on March 13 at Cathedral Village in Roxborough. A memorial service will he held on Saturday, March 18 at 11 a.m. at St. Martin-in-the-field Church, 8000 St. Martin’s Lane in Chestnut Hill. |
