Don’t-break-a-sweat cleaning tips
by Kristin Pazulski

Springtime to the college student means golf Frisbee, studying outside, driving with the windows down, trips to the beach. We hope that our post-college years will be the same or have similar thrills. But beware. Whether you have your own home or apartment or are living with the ‘rents, there is a monsterous thought out there that probably has yet to flit across your now-thousands-of-dollars worth of a brain, Spring Cleaning.

As a recent college graduate with an extreme (and I mean hide under the dusty bed or moldy shower curtain to avoid cleaning extreme) distaste in cleaning, I am going to offer some don’t-break-a-sweat tips for cleaning that will leave your place sparkly and smelling lovely. And don’t doubt my credentials, I did my research, via a germ-a-phobe friend and a stepmother that makes cleaning her favorite hobby (ew).

And by the way, these easy-to-do tips work for anyone, not just lazy post-college students.

Open the windows. So simple, right? But it will freshen up the house and clear out any stale air. Add a fragrant candle, air freshener or some spritzs of Lysol to really give the air that clean feeling.

Windex the windows while you are opening them. An easy chore that will flow sunshine into your home, and allow you to see the incoming spring vegetation.

Change the shower curtain. Seriously, the mold is a little much. How can you feel yourself getting clean in an unclean shower?!

Do the wash. Though this is an annoying chore, it is not a difficult one. The washer does all the work, all you need to do is add the materials and the suds, and find a fun way to occupy the waiting time. Go for a spring walk, pick up a game of Frisbee, watch a movie. The possibilities are endless. But for the spring cleaning-wash, go on a mega-washing spree. Grab anything machine washable (floor rugs, clothes, curtains, the comforter and bed sheets) and just spend a day relaxing and washing. It gets a lot done, but you’ll feel like you played all day!

Buy a plant. It brings spring into your own home!

Clean out the refridgerator. This might be a sweat-inducing workout, depending on the state of your refridgerator, but this is necessary in the spring cleaning process, because who knows what you still have in there.

Buy a Swiffer for the floor cleaning. Instead of having the mess of a broom and dustpan or even worse, a mop and bucket, grab one of those toss away Swiffer sheets and grab up all the dust from the floor, and give it a whirl on the furniture dusting too!

Febreeze. This is a Godsend for everyone.

Good luck, and God speed to you on your cleaning endeavors.
