Joseph A. Daly

Joseph A. Daly, Esq., an esteemed trial attorney, died suddenly on Thursday, Feb. 23 in the course of a civil trial at City Hall in downtown Philadelphia.

Mr. Daly was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Augustine Joseph Daly and was the first member of his family to graduate from high school. He was a member of the last graduating class from St. Thomas Moore High School in 1975. He went on to work his way through Temple University where he graduated cum laude in 1979. He received his juris doctorate from Temple University School of Law in 1982. After graduation Mr. Daly clerked for the Honorable Vincent A. Cirillo of the Pennsylvania Superior Court. He joined the firm of Kelly, McLaughlin & Foster after that and was a founding partner of Kelly, McLaughlin, Foster, Bracaglia, Daly, Trabucco and White. Mr. Daly was a shareholder of Marshall, Dennehy, Warner, Coleman and Goggin and a member of the local and national bar associations as well as the Philadelphia Association of Defense Counsel. In 2005 Mr. Daly was the recipient of the Annual Award of the Trial Attorneys of America.

An avid golfer and sportsman, Mr. Daly was a member of The Philadelphia Cricket Club and The South Hill Trapshooting Club.

Mr. Daly is survived by his wife, Barbara Mittnacht Daly; nine-year-old twin sons, Augustine Joseph and William Keo; and a brother Donald K. Daly of Philadelphia, Penn.

A viewing was held on Monday, Feb. 27, at Chadwick and McKinney, 30 E. Athens Avenue in Ardmore. A funeral mass was celebrated on Tuesday, Feb. 28 at in Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 63rd Street & Lancaster Avenue in Overbrook Farms. Internment followed at the George Washington Memorial Park at Butler and Stenton Avenues in Blue Bell.

Joseph M. Roman

Joseph M. Roman, 81, of Blue Bell, formerly of Chestnut Hill, died on Feb. 25. Mr. Roman was the husband of Dolores Roman (Zelinski) for 51 years. He is also survived by three daughters, Dr. Nina Roman Rose (Dennis), Annette Gannon (Michael), Andrea Loscalzo (Dan); a son, Joseph Roman Jr.; five grandchildren and a sister, Joann Messori (Dr. Divo).

He was a retired mechanical engineer at Philadelphia Gear Corporation and Welex Corporation and was an aviation enthusiast his whole life. He enjoyed visiting with his grandchildren, boating on the Chesapeake and growing vegetables in his garden.

A funeral Mass was held on Feb. 28 at St. Helena Church in Blue Bell and interment took place at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery.

Henry Disston II

Henry Disston, II, of Bryn Mawr, formerly of Chestnut Hill, died on Feb. 14.

Mr. Disston attended Chestnut Hill Academy, William Penn Charter School and graduated from St. George’s School in Newport, R.I., where he was an all-state basketball player. He attended Princeton University and was a member of the Ivy Club. He served in the military from 1943 to 1946.

Mr. Disston was the great-grandson of Henry Disston, founder of Henry Disston and Sons, Inc. in Tacony. Henry Disston and Sons, Inc. was the world’s largest saw manufacturer founded in Philadelphia in 1840. The company played a major role in the industrialization of Philadelphia.

Mr. Disston worked as an executive at Brooks Instrument Division before retiring. He served on the board of Arcadia University. He enjoyed trap shooting and golf and most especially music. He was a member of the Orpheus Club and sang in the choir at St. Paul’s Church in Chestnut Hill for over 50 years. He was also a member of the Philadelphia Cricket Club and Sunnybrook Golf Club.

Mr. Disston was the husband of the late Elise Cosgrove. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Mary Clay; three sons, Henry Jr., Michael and James Disston; a daughter, Elise Templet; a sister, Diana Tilghman; two stepchildren, Kathy Williams and Bob Worrell; six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren.

A memorial service was held on Saturday, Feb. 25 at St. Paul’s Church, 22 E. Chestnut Hill Ave. in Chestnut Hill.
