DRAGON
PARADE Thirty-six tiny legs scurried through the Germantown
Friends School campus on Feb. 1, celebrating the arrival of the
Year of the Dog as part of Teacher Cheryl Pinkus’ first grade
class study of China. Pinkus (left) led the students on a parade
through the school as children took turns portraying a Chinese dragon

Registration is now open for the 2006 Baseball Season. Who can remember
which skater performed the best triple Lutz-double toe loop at the
Olympic Games in Torino which concluded just this past Sunday? The
scores of players and family members of the Chestnut Hill Youth
Sports Club who turned out at the Spectrum on Feb. 18 to whoop it
up for the Philadelphia Kixx Indoor Soccer Team in a hard fought,
close loss to the St. Louis Steamers, are unlikely to forget their
experience. The kids got to snag hundreds of little soccer balls
tossed into the stands by the Kixx cheerleaders and even play soccer
on the field. They saw good teamwork in action and come fall, expect
to see them apply this, along with some fancy footwork, on the CHYSC
fields. Baseball season opens this spring: to sign up, visit chysc.org.

Norwood-Fontbonne Academy’s
Kindergarten took advantage of some February snow to hold their
own Winter Olympics on the school grounds. The games began when
Fran Doyle, maintenance supervisor, carried the torch into the opening
ceremonies. The students each held a small flag representing the
participating nations. They were then able to compete in various
events: “speed skating”, snowman building, toboggan
and tube racing, and a snowball relay race. The event closed with
a special medal ceremony and every participant received an award
for good sportsmanship and willingness to be a team player. The
“Olympians” included: (front, l-r) Chloe Ferraro of
Chestnut Hill, Abby Schwenger of Plymouth Meeting, Fiona Connerty
of Mt. Airy; (back, l-r) Brooke Howard of Wyndmoor, Matthew Harkins
of Abington, Fran Doyle of Oreland, Jake Ashenfelter of Roxborough
and Conner Stephenson of Wyncote. |
