Friday Night Basketball: Sixers edge Kings
by TOM AMODIE

In a battle of two of the league’s better teams the Sixers edged the Kings 31-29 in a low scoring game. The Sixers put two players in double figures — Rahmel Hamilton with 13 and O’Shane Black with 11. Probably more importantly than that, the Sixers’ defense held Jesse Biddle, one of the league’s better scorers, to just eight points. Arthur Borgeroff paced the Kings with 19 points. The Kings and Sixers each have one loss.

The Lakers, also one of the top three teams in the standings, got 15 points from Nick Myrick in trimming the Pistons, 49-45. Jay Burke had 16 for the losers while Matt Levin added 12.

The lead flip-flopped most of the game, but in the final quarter the Pistons scored just three points while Myrick and Matt Ellison each had a pair of field goals for the Lakers.

The Hawks won their first game of the year as they blitzed the Spurs, 46-25. Rochelle Drayton and Peter Adubato scored 17 and 15 points respectively for the winners. Ben Grant muscled in 14 for the Spurs.

Josh Stevens drained 34 points as the Heat melted the Celtics, 64-46. Mike Gibbs picked up 14 and Sam Mercuris 13 for the Celtics. Standings as of 1/28: Sixers 4-1, Lakers 4-1, Kings 3-1, Pistons 2-2, Celtics 2-3, Heat 2-3, Hawks 1-4 and Spurs 1-4.
