maluPRIZE-WINNING “SELF-PORTRAIT”: Mt. Airy artist Laura Pritchard will be awarded the Charles Knox Smith Founders Prize at the 66th Annual Juried Exhibition at Woodmere Art Museum, which opened Jan. 28. The work, Self Portrait with Fish, is batik on silk. Ms. Pritchard is known for her mastery of the ancient process of batik, which uses molten wax and French dyes painted on stretched silk. The exhibit will be on view until March 5.

Chestnut Hill residents :Yolanta Roman and Elizabeth Schmitt attended Les Dames d’Escoffier International Philadelphia Chapter’s annual potluck at Silverstone Bed and Breakfast in Chestnut Hill on Jan. 5 where they also celebrated raising $2,800 for the Easter Seals Society of Southwestern Pennsylvania during the annual gingerbread decoration event in early December.

 

FLYING HIGH: Altovise Love-Craighead and Michael Craighead are the only married Philadelphia police officer couple who are also full-time college students. The Chestnut Hill College pair rarely have any leisure time (Altovise also acts in a theater group), but here they are seen parasailing during a vacation in Cancun last summer. YOUNG QUILTERS: Geechee Girl Rice Café, 5946 Germantown Ave., will kick off Black History Month on Friday, Feb. 3, with an exhibition from a family of quilters. Cousins Alexis Berry and Kendall Allen, both 10 years old, will show quilts that they have made. Alexis and Kendall started sewing quilts at age seven, but they designed their first quilts at about age five. Their first design collaboration was a quilt for Kendall’s baby brother.
